Bereavement Support Groups
For some families, diagnosis and treatment doesn’t follow the desired path. Despite the best effort of your child’s medical teem, it may not be possible to cure your child’s cancer. The staff at Why Me will be at your side, as it is important for the entire family to accept support during this devastating time. Why Me has a community of families who have lived through the loss of their child. They too will be here to support you. We offer two support groups for bereaved parents.
Our Newly Bereaved Group consists of parents who have lost a child within the last five years. Newly bereaved families will experience a wide and sometimes frightening range of feelings, and we believe this grieving process can be made a little easier with support from others who have had a similar loss. This groups meets on the first Wednesday of each month and is facilitated by Kerri Padgett, a Why Me mother who lost her son to a brain tumor in 2012. Individual therapy is recommended for those seeking individual therapeutic support.
For parents who are further along in their bereavement, we offer Circle of Healing. This group meets quarterly and is facilitated by Cheryl Vaugh, a Why Me mom and staff member.
Mother’s Luncheon
Once a month, a small group of bereaved mother’s come to Sherry’s House and have lunch together. This gives them an opportunity to share more of their daily struggle with grief and lean on each other for support in a more informal setting.
“Eating together, breaking bread together, is one of the oldest and most fundamentally unifying of human experiences.”
