Why Me offers an array of financial and emotional support services based on the unique needs of each specific family. From hospital visits and support groups to family fun events and long-term residence, Why Me works to help strengthen the families within its community.
You’ve just been told that your child has cancer. Hearing those words can be an extremely devastating, distressing and isolating situation. Everything seems to stop and it can be an enormous shock to parents, siblings and everyone who loves the child. Normal life seizes as you try to understand your child’s cancer diagnosis and treatment. You’re bombarded with medical terms and forms to sign. Fear, anger and uncertainty fill your mind even as you attempt to hide it from your child who is trying to deal with the very same emotions. We want you to know you’re not alone. We have stood beside hundreds of families as they learn to adjust to the world of childhood cancer. At Why Me we understand that a cancer diagnosis affects the entire family and so our goal is to be a support system not only for your child, but for you as parents and caretakers, and the family as a whole unit. We are here to assist with needs both small and large. Why Me has a community of parents and children who have walked in your shoes and are there to share a laugh, dry a tear and give comfort to one another.
We play an active role in helping families adjust to the various stages of this life-threatening illness from diagnosis through treatment and beyond. At Why Me, our goal is to alleviate the isolation, desperation and constant stress a child and their family faces as they cope with childhood cancer. Why Me’s services are available to any family with a child being treated in a New England hospital and are offered completely free of charge.
All individual support services that we can offer to your family can be adjusted to best serve the specific, immediate and long-term needs of each child and each family. Aesop is quoted as saying, “In union there is strength.” At Why Me, we believe this to be true and so our staff, volunteers, and families unite to offer life enhancing support during your time of great need.
