100 Mile Ruck March 2025
Nick Plante – 100 Mile (Ruck March) in July 2025
Hello,
My name is Nicholas Plante. Since I can remember my life has been affected by cancer. When I was around 8 years old my mother was diagnosed with Breast Cancer for the first time, thankfully she overcame it. At the same time my very best friend’s father was diagnosed with cancer. Tragically this would be my first experience losing someone close. Over the years my mother has battled Breast Cancer two additional times and has beaten it. Recently my sister was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. She is currently in remission and doing well. About a month after my sister’s treatment, we discovered that my father had developed a tumor in his neck. After a lengthy treatment of chemo and radiation, he is also in remission. I consider myself extremely fortunate that the ones closest to me have been strong and lucky enough to beat this horrible illness. It seems impossible to go anywhere and speak to someone that has not been directly or indirectly affected by some sort of cancer. I cannot for the life of me, think of a better cause to support. I’m doing this challenge for myself and everyone that has had their lives affected by this horrible illness.
If you’re like me, you don’t like donating to programs and not knowing what your hard-earned money goes towards. With Why Me & Sherry’s House, I know exactly where my donation goes. Every day while we all go about our lives, there are families that must deal with the horrors of not knowing if their children will survive. Imagine the mental and physical toll this takes on them. Having a supportive system of people that understand what you’re going through is most important. You don’t have to fight alone. Through fun family events, dinners, group outings, summer camp and other programs, families forge enduring bonds of friendship through the power of a shared common experience. From support groups to logistical and financial support, as well as staff visits – whether at home, hospital or clinic – families receive support to address the specific ways their families’ lives have been disrupted. At Why Me, they are always striving to meet the unique and increased needs of every family with ever-expanding programming that benefits each child and each family when they need it most. All support and services Why Me provides are free of charge.
This is why I’m doing this fundraiser. Without donations, Why Me wouldn’t be able to help the most important people, the children and their families. Please take a moment and consider helping. Every little bit helps. No amount is too small.
The 100 Mile Ruck March Challenge taking place this July is a military inspired event, where a small group of Athletes will Ruck (hike) 25 miles a day for 4 days. Camping out each night on the farm of a local brewery and continuing the march at sunrise each morning. Athletes will carry everything they will need for this 4-day event on their backs, navigate the 100-mile course, cook their own meals, set up and break down their camps each night, tend to their feet and bodies. All in an attempt to raise awareness of this important cause.
100% of the proceeds go to Why Me & Sherry’s House, a grass roots non-profit organization dedicated to providing love and support services to families with childhood cancer. It’s run in part by parents that lived this experience first-hand, the dedicated staff and volunteers understand what families with a pediatric cancer patient need and are passionate about services provided.
Sincerely,
Nicholas Plante
