100 Mile Ruck March 2025
Katie King – A pilgrimage for Bridget
The 100 Mile Ruck March Challenge is a military inspired event, where a small group of Athletes will Ruck (hike) 25 miles a day for 4 days. Camping out each night on the farm of a local brewery and continuing the march at sunrise each morning. Athletes will carry everything they will need for this 4 day event on their backs, navigate the 100 mile course, cook their own meals, set up and break down their camps each night, tend to their feet and bodies, all in an attempt to earn the coveted 100 Mile Ruck March Finisher Medal.
100% of the proceeds go to Why Me & Sherry’s House a grass roots non-profit organization dedicated to providing love and support services to families with childhood cancer. It’s run in part by parents that lived this experience first-hand, the dedicated staff and volunteers understand what families with a pediatric cancer patient need and are passionate about services provided.
I am doing this ruck march to honor my cousin Bridget Wyco, a hopeful soul who battled brain cancer but passed away at just 20 months old. This event is a tribute to Bridget and a way to give back to Why Me, an organization that offered invaluable support to her family during that difficult time. Bridget’s parents, Jane, a remarkably resilient mother, and Mark, a now retired Worcester firefighter, experienced immense challenges, and Why Me helped ease their burden. They are a wonderful organization and it is an honor to have the opportunity to accomplish such a feat to give back to Why Me for all the supportive and compassionate work they do.
