100 Mile Ruck March 2025
Katie Eagan – 100 Mile Ruck March 2025
The 100 Mile Ruck March Challenge is a military inspired event, where a small group of Athletes will Ruck (hike) 25 miles a day for 4 days. Each night is spent camping out on the farm of a local brewery and continuing the march at sunrise each morning. Athletes will carry everything they will need for this 4 day event on their backs, navigate the 100 mile course, cook their own meals, set up and break down their camps each night, tend to their feet and bodies, all in an attempt to earn the coveted 100 Mile Ruck March Finisher Medal, while raising money for a great cause.
100% of the proceeds go to Why Me & Sherry’s House a grass roots non-profit organization dedicated to providing love and support services to families with childhood cancer. It’s run in part by parents that lived this experience first-hand, the dedicated staff and volunteers understand what families with a pediatric cancer patient need and are passionate about services provided.
I completed this challenge in the summer of 24. When I first signed up for this event, I did it for selfish reasons. I wanted to challenge myself and prove to myself that I was still capable of great things. I have had my share of struggles, and I needed to do something bigger than myself. As the days progressed into the challenge I became much more connected to the cause. I was rucking with people who lost children to cancer, with people who received services from this amazing organization, and even with one incredible young woman who battled cancer herself as a child and signed up to ruck with her mom as soon as she turned 18. Seeing her cross the finish line was inspiring to say the least. It became clear early on that this was a much deeper commitment than a mere physical challenge. This was about giving all that we had physically in gratitude for the healthy children in our lives and in loving support of those facing unimaginable hardship. What started as an event that I viewed much like a great adventure, morphed into a deep gratitude for life and a love for all of those I met along the way during this journey. I realized that in some way, I would always be connected to this amazing organization in some form.
After completing last year’s grueling event, I had decided that I would volunteer on the course next time around. But, as my body healed, and memories of pain faded, I realized that I needed to do this again. Please consider supporting Why Me & Sherry’s House, and maybe we can all make a difference.
