100 Mile Ruck March Challenge
Bradley George – 100 Mile Ruck March Athlete
Fitness and healthy eating / exercising habits are relatively new to me. I’ve been going to the gym for the past couple of months with a few really solid and supportive guys. I’ve spent this time trying to develop healthy habits and get into the best shape I have been in. When my friends told me they were going to be hiking 100 miles in four days I thought they were crazy. No way you’d ever catch me out doing something like that. The 100 Mile Ruck March Challenge is a military inspired event, where a small group of Athletes will Ruck (hike) 25 miles a day for 4 days. Camping out each night. As I continued with my fitness journey and got more serious, I thought maybe it’s a good idea to sign up for the 2024 ruck. after all, I’d be in shape by then. Pretty quickly I was offered a spot in this year’s ruck, and after discussing it with my friends and family, decided that there’s no reason not to try. My body is capable of far more than my mind leads me to believe. This ruck will be huge for me physically, as well as mentally. most importantly, the efforts put in will benefit families impacted by unimaginable hardships. In the short term it’s a few days of walking, but long term it’s helping numerous families get through situations that I hope I’ll never have to go through, but if I did, I would want a charity like this to help my family through it. 100% of the proceeds go to Why Me & Sherry’s House, a grass roots non-profit organization dedicated to providing love and support services to families with childhood cancer. It’s run in part by parents that lived this experience first-hand, the dedicated staff and volunteers understand what families with a pediatric cancer patient need and are passionate about services provided.
